The support group “Selbsthilfe Darmkrebs” holds its annual benefit event at the Grand Hotel Wien

3 January 2020

On 24 November 2019 the bowel cancer support organisation “Selbsthilfe Darmkrebs” hosted its traditional pre-Christmas matinee event at the Grand Hotel Wien for the very first time.

Lending their support to the 15th matinee event held by “Selbsthilfe Darmkrebs”, actors Toni Slama and Prof. Franz Robert Wagner performed stories and readings by renowned local authors according to the motto: “Hot & cold, loud & soft – this morning only! Exceptionally…”.

Dr. Martin Schuppich provided the musical accompaniment – and talented young musician Fabian Postl wowed everyone with his skill on the harmonica.

And the two stars of stage and screen were ably supported by a few more big names: Valentin, Farkas and Waldbrunn, Slawomir Mrozek and Wilhelm Rudnigger, not to mention Axel Corti, Anton Edthofer, Anton Krutisch, even Albert Einstein and Georg Kreisler.

Great performances and a wonderful atmosphere

As expected, the artists certainly didn’t fail to entertain the 350 or so guests! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Always a hit, the morning event then drew to a delicious close with an exclusive Sunday brunch as in previous years.

“We have absolutely loved this event, which is so vital for our organisation. Our heartfelt thanks must of course go to the performers and to all those who made it possible for us to enjoy this fantastic experience! I’d also like to thank all our guests from the bottom of my heart! The proceeds from this event have reached a staggering EUR 9,000 – an amazing amount that we can put to excellent use in our work supporting those affected by cancer,” said a delighted Helga Thurnher, President of Selbsthilfe Darmkrebs.
